It has become a tradition in the city of Zagreb to celebrate the Advent season with a vast selection of cultural programmes designed to please even the most demanding visitor. This year, when the best Christmas market in Europe takes over the central Ban Jelačić Square for the Advent season, the central stage in the square will be taken over by a new concept of World Ethno Advent, a musical programme featuring all types of performing groups, from the best cultural and artistic societies to singers from amateur and children’s choirs.
All of you who visit the central square in Zagreb during this time will be able to enjoy instrumental musical sessions, singing of traditional Christmas music, and awarded children’s choirs performing original music. The popular repertoire will include traditional Easter, Christmas and Marian devotional songs.
The programme at the central city square has been compiled for all generations and designed to promote the Croatian musical heritage in an attractive way. The musical festival at Ban Jelačić Square is organized in cooperation with the Ethnographic Museum in Zagreb, which is marking its 100th anniversary this year.
The programme at Ban Jelačić Square starts with the ceremonial lighting of the first Advent candle on Saturday, November 30th at 5 pm and will continue until December 24th, with daily performances from 6 pm to 10 pm. On Saturdays and Sundays, there are additional musical programmes from 12 am to 1 pm.
